Prayer moves the hand of God!
What is prayer? Prayer is the time that we spend communicating with God. Please note that I have said communicating and not just talking to or telling. Communicating with God is a two way process. It involves you telling and then you listening as well. Prayer is our way of communicating to God, Him listening to us, and His hand being moved through our prayers.
So many people come to me and say that they never hear from God. My first question to them is “Do you ever listen for His Voice or are you so busy speaking that God does not get time to put a word in edgeways?”
God requires that we spend time with him on a daily basis. I choose to give God my first waking hours. I believe that God comes first in my life and therefore He deserves my first attention for the day. I also find that in the early morning I do not have any other thoughts on my mind from what has happened througth the day and so I am able to spend totally dedicated time with Him.
I find, and so many other people as well, that there seems to be something magical about the one hour prayer. As you start to come near to the mark of one hour in prayer, it seems as if the windows of heaven open up and you walk straight into the prescence of God. Spending and hour in prayer may at first seem like a lot, but as you progress deeper into your relationship with God, you may actually find that it is not enough, especially when you enter into His prescence, then you just don’t want to leave.
How do I pray? First you must realise that God knows you, every little part of you and every thought that you have. Go before God as yourself, do not try to bulldust God into thinking that you are some super spiritual that is doing Him a favour by your talking to Him. Speak to Him as you would to your own earthly father or as you would to your best friend. He is far more than both of these combined.
Jesus gives us the example of how we should pray in Matthew 6 : 9. Keep this as an outline of how you should pray. ie ”your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” – ” yes Father, let your peace come down onto this earth, let peace and happiness just enter my home, and may you interced and bring your peace into the relationship of Mr and Mrs so and so.”
When you go through the prayer, just elaborate. When you are finished, take time to sit quietly and listen to His inner voice. You will soon begin to recognise his voice .
The bible gives many guidelines on our prayer life.
“The effective fervent prayer of a righteos man avails much” James 5:16
“that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God” Luke 6:12
“And all things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive” Matthew 21:22
“However this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting” Matthew 17:21
”These all continued with one accord in prayer” Acts 1:14
God has already forgiven you of your sins and your weaknesses. Go before Him boldly and speak before Him as the conqueror that He has already made you.
Continue always in prayer for both yourself and others. Spend time in prayer by yourself and with others.
