Anointed

The Anointing vs being Anointed.

The anointing is one of the greatly misunderstood concepts of christianity. Most understand the anointing to be when the power of God descends on a meeting or when the power of God is around. However few are able to grasp what the fundemental differences are between the meaning of the anointing and what it is to be anointed.

To be Anointed.

When we  come to Jesus and accept Jesus as Lord of our lives, we accept that spiritual calling on our lives and we step into the office of being a Christian. To be anointed can be defined as an irrevocable calling into a spiritual position. We have been anointed to serve Christ. This is an irrevocable appointment in our lives where Christ literally pours the annointing oil of the Holy Spirit into our lives and sets us into the post of being a Christian.

Once we have been anointed, it means that we have been placed in a position of power through the Lord Jesus Christ. You are anointed of God. At a later stage in your walk with Jesus, it is quite possible that different anointings will be placed upon your life. You may be anointed to pray for the lost, or to be a leader, an evangelist or even into the full time ministry.

Understanding the anointing.

If we have been anointed it means that we walk in the anointing?    Not Necessary.

You became anointed by Christ through the pouring of the oil of the Holy Spirit upon you when you dedicated your life to Him.  You were given the keys to an office.  However, you only have the power associated with that office when you are inside the office. A Judge or a magistrate has great power, but only when he or she is in actively judging or residing over a matter. A policeman also has many powers whilst they are on duty and wearing their uniforms, but as soon as they book off duty and go home and change out of their uniforms they revert to being ordinary people, just like you and me. Sure they may know some powerful people who can help them out of trouble, but they are just ordinary people with friends in high places.

When you take up the office that Christ has given you when you were anointed, you carry that annointing and the power that comes with the anointing. When you are called to be an Evangelist, you walk under the anointing of an evangelist while you are actively evangelising. But when you take your wife out for a quite dinner somewhere, you are, however, just an ordinary person like, everyone else, with the exception of course that you have Family in High Places!

You walk in the anointing of God whilst you are actively pursuing His purpose that He has placed in your life. Peter was anointed into the position of building the church of God. Peter followed and actively pursued this annointing  and as a result he carried so much of the Lord’s power with Him that even as His shadow passed over people they were healed. As you become more deeply involved in pursuing that which you were called to do, the anointing will become stronger in your life and you will take up more of the power that Jesus has already given to you on the day upon which you were anointed. Please note that I say that He has already given the power to you, but that you have not yet taken it up. While you sit back all complacent and never actively do anything for Jesus except maybe going to church on Sundays, you will never walk in the anointing of Jesus. A policeman that never puts on his uniform and never books on duty has no power.

The corporate anointing.

The corporate anointing is what most people recognise as being the anointing. When we go to a great meeting and there are hundreds or even thousands of people actively doing what God has called them to do, and that is to praise and give glory to Him, there comes with it a mass joining of all the individual anointings which then results in an extemely powerful corporate anointing.

It is unfortunate that this corporate anointing is what most people recognise as being the anointing. They are yet to realise that when you become fully focused on doing that which God has called you to do, and you have one mind and one purpose, that the full power that Jesus anointed you with, becomes active in your life and you start to walk in the full anointing which is within you and are able to accomplish the impossible through the anointing.

Christ said, in John 14:12 that you will do the same as He did and far greater than that which He did. If you accept the anointing which Christ has placed upon you, you will pray for the sick and they will be healed. You will cast out demons. You will raise the dead.

The power to do all these things is already inside of you, but you need to take up the office and walk in the anointing.

You have been called to be a policeman for Christ. Put on your uniform which can be found in Ephesians 6:13 and go out and fight against the crimes of sin, arresting sickness and casting the demons into jail.
