Children obey
The family units of today have become a mess, with children disobedient to their parents and having no respect for their parents. There are many reasons for this, but the biggest single reason that exists is that the teachings of the bible, Jesus, and the fear of God no longer exist in the hearts of the people.
Bring your child up in the ways of the Lord and they shall not depart from them. Many who are crying out about the disobedience and rebellion of their own children, have simply not brought their children up in the ways of the Lord. If the child was brought up incorrectly, then the blame is not on the child, but rather on the parents. Parents who did not want to bring up their children biblically, can not now decide to blame their children for being disrespectful towards them.
Ephesians 6:1 "Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." This scripture does have a double meaning which is introduced with the phrase "Parents in the Lord." The first meaning is that you should obey your parents as they themselves obey God. The second meaning is that you should also obey your spiritual parents and that is those who have become your spiritual mother and father in God.
Verse 2 to 3. "Honour your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise. "That it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." This scripture is a reference to the main scripture dealing with this topic which is found in Deuteronomy 5:16.
Deuteronomy 27:16 treats the subject more severely. "Cursed is the one who treats his father or mother with contempt."
All the above scriptures clearly indicate that children should be respectful to their parents and that it is in the best interest of the child to honour their parents. However, the biggest problem still remains that it is not the child who will automatically know these things. It is the responsibility of the parent to install these Godly principles into the child!
Ephesians 6:4, "And you fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord." This scripture clearly reveals to us that the instilling of Godly principles into the children, is the responsibility of the father of the children.
Fathers, take some time out of your busy schedule, to teach and train your children in the ways of the Lord. It is your responsibility to them and to God. Your time spent with your children in teaching them Godly principles, will be rewarded back to you in the future, for your children who have been brought up in the ways of the Lord, will honour and respect you, and their lives on the earth will be long, as is stipulated in verse 3 of Ephesians 6 and in Deuteronomy 5:16.
The Chain Of Love
Love is as a chain, it consists of many links, each joined to one another, and each link in itself forms a ring or circle that is solid and never ending. So is the chain of love that fills our lives, it is solid and each link in it is never ending and permanently joined.
The first link in the chain of love is the anchor link. The anchor link is contained in John3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." This is the start of the chain. The chain is anchored by God Himself who then forms the link with Jesus who is the second link in the chain. John15:10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Fathers commandments and abide in His Love."
The first two links of the chain of love are set as being the Father and then Jesus. The third link in the chain is you. Are you linked into the chain of love in Jesus. Matthew 22:37 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind." This is the greatest of all the commandments and almost all who have accepted Jesus into their lives obey this the greatest commandment, and have formed this crucial link in the chain.
We now have three links in the chain of love, God - Jesus - You. The second greatest commandment is revealed in Matthew 22:39 "And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself." This is the point where many a chain starts to fall apart, because you may be a weak link in the chain of love. Do you love your neighbour as yourself. Are you carrying that gift of love, that flows through the chain from the Father, and allowing that love to spread out further below you, that others may also experience the love of God, or do you consider yourself to be the last link in the chain of love, where all the love gets stored and goes no further.
John 15:17 "These things I command you that you love one another." Only in your carrying the love to others and forming more links in the chain of love, can the chain grow. At this very moment, you are forming the last link in the chain of love, and unless you reach out and link again to a lost soul, that chain of love can never grow. Reach out to your neighbour, which is not necessary your physical neighbour, but is someone that is around you, and invite them to join into the chain of love.
The chain is strong, it is secure, it is always growing, and will never lose it's strength. The chain is indestructable and each link in the chain relies on the other links around it for it's total strength. Each link in the chain feels when pressure is exerted to even one of the smallest links in the chain, and so it is in the chain of love. When stress and strain is placed on you in the tug-of-war of life, then all the links in the chain stand together and fight against the stress and strain, and with the Father as the anchor, and Jesus linked to Him, who can ever win against such a force.
If you are not in the chain of love, then get linked in now, and if you are already linked in, then seek to increase the length of the chain of love, by linking to your neighbour.
All about Love.
Jesus is all about love and our relationship with Jesus is all about love. Jesus paid the ultimate price for the love that He has for us in dying on the cross. What does Jesus expect back from us in return for the love that he showed to us.
Jesus expects us to love Him back and if we love Him, then we are to keep His commandments - not out of duty , but out of love. John 14:21 "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." The person that has the commandments of Jesus is the person who reads the bible and receives a deposit of the word into his soul. The person that keeps His commandments is the one who loves Jesus, for if you love Him and have a relationship with Him, you will want to please Him and obey Him. What person who loves their husband or wife dearly, does not want to please their husband or wife. Jesus is much more than a husband or wife to us and if you have accepted Him as Lord and Saviour in your life, then you do love Him and will want to keep His commandments.
When you love Jesus, the Father in heaven changes his heart to you and the Father Himself falls in love with you, and then Jesus manifests Himself (Shows) to you. Verse 23 says "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with Him." What can be better than knowing that both Jesus and the Father have a home with you.
The key to having a life filled with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, is the love relationship that you have with the Son, Jesus. If you have accepted Jesus into your life, you have begun a love relationship with Him. If you love Him, then you will want to keep His commandments and will do your best to please Him. When you keep the commandments of Jesus and love Him, then the hand of the Father is turned and the Father will love you and the Father and Jesus will come and make their home with you through the Holy Spirit.
Love Jesus with all of your heart and all of your mind, and He will come to you and show Himself to you, and once Jesus shows Himself to you, your life will be changed permanently.
Hypocrites
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites.
Jesus repeats this exact phrase in verse 13, 14, 15, 23, 25, 27 and 29 of chapter 23 in Matthew. I believe that He is trying to tell us something. The Scribes and the Pharisees were seen to be the spiritual leaders and teachers of the day. They frequented and taught in the temples.
Jesus openly challenged them about their poor teachings, and the unneccessary burdens that they placed upon the people attending the temple or church, which they failed to observe themselves. Matthew 23:4 says, "For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers."
Jesus continued to say that they do all the things that they could be seen by men and be praised and exalted by men. They loved the best places at feasts and and the best seats in the synagogues. Maybe our modern churches are still very similar to the Synagogues and Temples of the day.
My question is this, "If Jesus despised these men and their teachings so badly, why did Jesus continue to go to the temples to teach and to pray?" Jesus knew that these very same people were those that were in the end going to have Him crucified. Jesus was clearly not impressed with the way that they handled the matters of the church of those days. Why did Jesus continue to go back. Many times Jesus had to escape from these very same places, to avoid being stoned. Why did He continue to go back to pray?
The answer is fairly simple. Even though the house was full of hypocrites, it was the house of the Father. Jesus was showing us the way. Even though the churches of today may be filled with hypocrites, we are still to go to the churches, not to meet with the hypocrites, but to seek the face of the Father. We go to His house to meet with and honour Him.
Jesus has shown us the way, and has given us the example to follow. He instructed us to love our neighbour, which could very well be a hypocrite. Just love the hypocrite, and allow Jesus to change them. It is only through your meeting with the Father at His house, that your humbleness can shine through, and that a shadow can be thrown upon the hypocrite, that he himself, will come to the realisation that his ways are wrong.
Jesus loves the humble and says that you are always to seat yourself at the bottom of the table, and that He will come and move you to a better position, casting the hypocrite into the lower position. Do not worry about hypocrites, for they are not the one's that you are coming to meet with. Worry about the meeting with the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
