The sin of gluttony is possibly one of the more difficult of the seven deadly sins to understand at first, but once the meaning of the word gluttony is fully understood, it is easier to understand why it is one of the seven deadly sins.
According to the miriam webster dictionary Gluttony can be defined as
1) Excess in eating or drinking
2) Greedy or excessive indulgence.
As can be seen from the above definition, gluttony also refers to a greedy or excessive indulgence in anything. Gluttony overlaps with the sin of greed and it is often found that those who suffer from gluttony also suffer from greed.
Further definitions of the word gluttony reveal that gluttony is also a form of a total lack of discipline and manners. Those who are gluttons will do anything to satisfy their desires for that which they lust for.
