Receiving the Anointing

Many quest to have more of the anointing in their lives. One of the greatest aspirations in christians is to walk in the anointing, to be  so full of the anointing that they become another Peter, who was so anointed that as his shadow passed over the sick, they were healed of their infirmities.

In our quests to be filled with the anointing and to walk in the anointing, we often neglect to look at the purpose of the anointing in our lives and the consequences that may surround the anointing. God does not give us the anointing in our lives for fun or entertainment. You become anointed for a purpose, and that is to do God’s work.

Many people run from pastor to pastor and from anointed one to anointed one in their quest to become more anointed. The big problem, is once you have received the anointing that you so desire, what exactly are you going to do with it. You are perhaps like the local street dog who eagerly chases after every car that drives down the street, and one day when the dog eventually catches the car, it becomes so confused because it does not know what to do with it. Try it for yourself if you have a street dog that chases cars. Allow it to catch your car and then watch how it becomes totally confused and does not know what to do with the car it just caught.

Beware of what you are trying to get. God does not give the anointing for fun or entertainment. God gives it for His purpose to be fulfilled. Matthew 25:15 to 30 relates the parable of the talents. God gave 5 talents to one, two talents to another and one talent to the last. When he returned, the man with the five talents had made a profit of five talents and so now had ten talents. The second man likewise had made profit, but the third took his talent and hid it. The Lord took this talent away from him and gave to the one who had made great profit. Then He cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness.

The anointing in your life is the “Talent”. God gives it to you that you may take it and use it to create more anointing. If you do not use it, you will lose it and you will become the unprofitable servant and may risk being cast out. If you are given the talent of the anointing, it is for you to take and spread and to increase. Increase only comes from using the anointing. When you go out and pray for the sick, you are using the anointing in your life to create a fresh anointing, and then God will increase the anointing that you have. However if God gives you the anointing and you do not use it, what little you have, will be taken away.

“Oh but brother, you do not understand, I am trusting God to have the anointing in my life to go out and preach to crowds of millions of people and to see hundreds of thousands of people get saved. God has great things in store for me, and I am just waiting for Him to open the doors for me to preach to millions.” Oh yes, I do understand that if you are not prepared to get off your backside and preach to the one lost person that is your neighbour, God will never be able to use you to preach to millions. Unless you are prepared to start small and use the small anointing that God has already given you to do small things, God can not entrust you to do great and mighty things. If you are found faithful with the small things, then God can start to entrust you with greater things.

The anointing is treated similar to finances. God says that if we want to have more, we have to give away of what we already have. Give and it shall come back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. When you take your anointing and give it away, through praying for the sick in the name of Jesus, casting out demons, preaching to the lost etc, then it comes back to you, stronger and more powerful each time.  Peter did not just receive his anointing by chance and because the lord favoured him. Peter took the little anointing that he had at first, combined it with the little faith that he had, and went out and used it. Everytime that Peter used this faith combined with anointing, it came back to him stronger and stronger until such time as it was so strong that even his shadow healed the sick.

Take the anointing that you have already been given, and combine it with faith, and start to use it. Next time that someone is sick, do not call the pastor to come and pray for them, you go and lay hands on them, anoint them with oil, and pray for their healing. The next time you see someone who is hungry on the street, you take them some food to eat. When you see the lost, don’t tell your evangelism team that they need to go preach on that corner, you go yourself and tell that lost person about Jesus, and then you will experience the increase in the anointing in your life. Once you preach to one, then God can use you to preach to two, and then one hundred and then a thousand and eventually maybe even a million at a time. But you will never get to the million if you do not start with one.

Take that anointing which God has already given to you, use it and combine it with faith, and then the anointing will become greater in you life.

God Bless.
