Infant baptism is the practise of baptising infants or very young children. Churches are split with some traditional churches being pro infant baptism, and others being anti infant baptism. How does the bible view the subject of infant baptism? Is it scriptural.
The bible clearly states that we are to repent and be baptized.
Acts 3:38 Then Peter said to them,”Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Mathew 3: 2 “and saying ‘Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand’.” This was the calling of John the Baptist on calling those to be baptized by him.
Mathew 3:11 says “indeed I baptize you with water unto repentance”. If we are to repent before we are baptized and we are then baptized unto repentance, an infant is unable to repent.
Jesus was baptized by John the baptist at the age of approximately 30 years. This is covered in Matthew 3:13.
Infant Baptism is therefore more a dedication of the baby to the Lord but infant baptism can not take the place of baptism in water.
We are to follow the example set by Jesus and the instructions as set out in Mathew chapter 3 and in Acts, which says that we are to Repent and be baptized.
