John15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
John15:9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in my love.”
John15:10 “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”
John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
The word “abide“, used in the context above, means “To live in” and “Continue to be sure or firm.” When we come before Jesus, we are to abide in him. This means that we have to start to live in Him, and continue to to be sure and firm in Him. You have to start placing Jesus as the root and foundation in your life. You have to place your feet firmly within Him, and then you know that He is the foundation in your life, the one that you can continue in and be sure of.
When you have an old house that is busy falling down, and you wish to rebuild it. First, you demolish the old house, then remove the old foundations. Once this is done, you cast new solid foundations and start to build your new house. If the foundations of the old house are weak, and you try to place new brickwork on the old foundations, the brickwork will continually crack and fall.
When we come to Jesus, we declare that our old house was starting to fall to pieces, we then demolish the old house through getting baptised in water, and in the submersion in water, we cast a new foundation and rise up out of the water with a new foundation cast solidly in Jesus. We then start to build our new house on that solid foundation of Jesus. When you try to build a new life, but fail to go through baptism in water, you often fail because you have not renewed your foundation.
“And my words abide in you”. You have to get the word to live inside of you, and that is through reading the bible and depositing the written word of God into your spirit. That is the only way for the word to abide in you.
Once you have become firmly founded in Jesus, and His word has become firmly entrenched with in you, then whatever you ask, will be done for you, for automatically whatever you ask for will be in line with the word of God and will be to the glory of God, for its is in Jesus that you abide and love, and your will has become His will.
Jesus said that as the Father has loved Him, so He also loves us, and we are then to be founded and sure in His love. You are to be secure, knowing that He does love you.
When you abide in Jesus, you will become a person full of love, for just as Jesus had that perfect love for others, Jesus has become your root and foundation. The root feeds the tree and branches, and therefore Jesus feeds you with love, which in turn shines through you to all around you. You also will want to keep His commandments, and His greatest commandment is that we love one another, as He has loved us.
In summary, you have to build your house on the foundation of Christ. Destroy your old house, be baptised in water, and become sure in the knowledge that you abide in Him, and His words abide in you, and that He loves you.
